- Weight: 4.4 tons
- Technologies: Laser Cladding & PTA
- Location: Muong Kim 3 Hydropower Plant, Lai Chau, Vietnam
Laser Cladding & PTA Restoration
After years of operation in water, the turbine runner suffered from wear and cavitation erosion. Phuong Dong worked with the plant’s representatives and the equipment manufacturer’s experts to assess the damage, agree on a technical repair plan, and select the appropriate restoration technology for each damaged area.
Laser Cladding and Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) welding were used to rebuild worn material. These technologies provide controlled material deposition, helping minimize heat input and reduce the risk of distortion.
Finishing and Quality Inspection
After material deposition, the runner blades were machined and ground to restore the required profiles. The runner then underwent dynamic balancing and non-destructive testing, including liquid penetrant testing (PT) and ultrasonic testing (UT), to assess surface and internal defects.
Restoration using Laser Cladding and PTA helps extend equipment service life, reduce repair costs, and improve operational efficiency.
