Restoring D70 Intake–Exhaust Valve Port on Compressor Cylinder Body Using Laser Cladding

During long-term operation, the intake–exhaust valve ports on the compressor cylinder body are subjected to high pressure, elevated temperature, and continuous vibration. Over time, these ports become worn, scratched, and lose sealing capability, reducing compression efficiency.
With a D70 port at a depth of 120 mm, the workspace is extremely narrow and difficult to access, making traditional welding methods nearly impossible.

Challenges of the D70 Internal Bore

• Located deep inside the cylinder body with restricted working space
• Difficult welding posture through a narrow opening
• High risk of cylinder body distortion with conventional welding
• Uneven deposit layers and poor concentricity when using manual methods

To restore the deep D70 port, we apply a specialized internal-laser cladding head combined with a precision fixturing system:

• Rigidly securing the cylinder body to ensure complete stability during welding
• Guiding the laser head accurately along the center of the port, even at deep positions
• Checking concentricity before and after welding with dial indicators
• Producing smooth, uniform, well-bonded clad layers with minimal distortion

Restoration Process

1. Positioning the cylinder body on a fixed fixturing platform
2. Aligning the D70 port centerline using dial indicators
3. Performing Laser Cladding with a deep-hole welding torch
4. Finish machining the port to restore dimensions and tolerances
5. Inspecting concentricity, roundness, and surface roughness before delivery
